APSC 101 projects
APSC 101 is your first introduction to engineering design. You will work with a team of students over 12 weeks to solve a design project. There are three diferent potential projects that you may be assigned. Although each project focuses on a different application area, all three involve similar engineering concepts, including sensor measurements, automated systems, fluid dynamics, feedback systems, and decision-making under changing operating conditions. You will be given the opportunity to rank your preferences in the incoming student survey that is due by July 8, 2026. (The survey was sent out June 26, please check your Queen's email)
The projects that you will be able to select from are:
Drinking Water Filtration Prototype
Your team will design and implement a small prototype of a drinking water filtration and treatment plant tailored for communities lacking pre-existing municipal infrastructure. You will develop a solution to tackle physical contamination within water supplies through an autonomous system that delivers safe, potable water.
Artificial Pancreas Prototype
Your team will design and implement a small prototype of a pancreas that emulates glucose regulation in blood using blood sugar substitutes. These solution models will also explore the impact that diabetes has on the pancreas, and how a system can be modelled to account for such metabolic diseases.
Remote Hydroponic Horticulture Prototype
Your team will design and build a scaled, automated hydroponic (soilless) gardening system prototype. You will create an intelligent system that monitors plant health and automatically dispenses precise dosages of nutrients into the water supply, as well as measures nutrient concentrations and pH of the dispensing solution. This hydroponic garden will serve as a resilient agricultural system capable of flourishing in environments where traditional farming is impractical.
Your first assignment!
The Excel/ Word assignment is your first assignment for APSC 101/199. You should complete this assignment over the summer and be one step ahead for September. It is due by Sept 8 at 9am. See below for the Excel Tutorial material that are designed to help you on this assignment!
The assignment is part of your APSC 101/199 mark.
