OPEN: APSC 200/293 Engineering Design and Practice II/Engineering Communications TA – Fall 2026

Graduate engineering and applied science students from all disciplines are invited to apply for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (TA) in APSC 200/293 for Fall 2026.

TA duties will include managing teams during design and communication workshops, providing guidance and feedback, assisting in teaming development, and grading deliverables. Any necessary training will be included in the TA assignment.

Candidates should have excellent engineering communication skills, both written and oral. The ideal candidate will also have proven leadership, time management, and interpersonal skills. Engineering design experience is a strong asset.

Fall term TA contracts run Sept 1-Dec 31, 2026. Typical contract hours may range from 70-85 hours per term, depending on assigned section, team size, and duties. Remuneration is $50.00/hour plus 7% benefits (or in accordance with the latest Collective Agreement), and appointments are subject to funding or enrolment criteria. Collective Agreement details can be found here.

The maximum number of hours of work for any Graduate TA, regardless of the number of TAships held, is no more than an average of 10 hours per week (averaged over the academic year, per 16.02 TA Collective Agreement) so please inform us of your hours of availability. OPEN: APSC 200/293 (Engineering Design and Practice II/Engineering Communications) - Lead TA – Fall 2026

Graduate engineering and applied science students from all disciplines are invited to apply to be a Lead TA for APSC 200/293.

The Lead TA will work closely with the instructional team to provide support and oversee TAs throughout the course. Duties will involve running TA training sessions, calibrating grades and feedback, and providing support to TAs as they navigate teaming challenges. The Lead TA may also be asked to assist with assignment creation, re-grade requests, and/or team conflicts. Any necessary training will be included in the TA assignment.

Candidates must have excellent engineering communication skills, both written and oral, and should be used to providing constructive feedback to students and dealing with conflict resolution. As this role also involves directly managing the TA team, candidates must have management experience and should also be prepared to respond to emailed inquiries in a timely manner, which may include evenings and weekends.

An in-person Lead TA is strongly preferred, though an exceptional candidate may be considered for hybrid or remote arrangements.

Fall term TA contracts run Sept 1-Dec 31, 2026. The contract’s hours will range between 25-40 hours, depending on the assigned duties. OPEN : APSC 101 (Module 1) Teaming coordinator

All Graduate students are invited to apply for an TA as a Teaming coordinator for the course APSC 101 in Fall 2026. APSC 101 is a first-year course in engineering design where students are encouraged to tackle open-ended problems while learning the basics of Engineering design. Professional experience and comfort in the subject of professional communications is essential as well as evaluating students critically in this area. You can read more about APSC 101 here.

APSC 101 is often the first engineering design team course that incoming students experience and there can be challenges in terms of communication and commitment. We are looking for a teaming coordinator who can meet with teams and individuals who are experiencing difficulty to provide guidance to help them improve their team functionality.

APSC 101 (Module 1) Teaming Coordinator Responsibilities

  • Participating in training sessions to prepare for the position
  • Organize meetings with teams and individuals that are experiencing teaming challenges
  • Attending meetings with Program Lead, and Course Coordinator, as required
  • Ensuring the project teams remain focused on their projects and are on-schedule for on-time completion
  • Reporting any problems with the project and/or students to the Program Associate and/or Course Coordinator promptly
  • Important notes:
    • This position requires non-standard working hours – you must be available to meet with student teams during the day, in the evening, and on weekends, as required
    • The workload for this position is not evenly distributed 

Qualifications

It develops complex problem solving, teaming, critical thinking, and communication skills, and provides guidance in incorporating safety, ethical, economic, and social factors in engineering problem solving. Examples and project topics are chosen to complement instruction in other first year courses, specifically including programming and graphics. This course is integrated with APSC 199, and coordinated by the same instructors.

  

OPEN: APSC 101 Project Manager Upper Year- Fall Term 2026

APSC 101 is a first-year course in engineering design where students are encouraged to tackle open-ended problems as they work directly with a community partner in addressing a specified need. Typically, Project Managers for APSC 101 are undergraduate students but for teams that are made up of upper year students we are looking for a Project Manager with more experience dealing with teams.

APSC 101 PM Responsibilities

  • Participating in training sessions to prepare for the position
  • Becoming completely familiar with assigned project(s)
  • Evaluating student oral and written work during and at the end of term
  • Attending meetings with Faculty Advisors, Program Associate, and Course Coordinator, as required
  • Ensuring the project teams remain focused on their projects and are on-schedule for on-time completion
  • Reporting any problems with the project and/or students to the Program Associate and/or Course Coordinator promptly
  • Scheduling oral presentations in consultation with students and Faculty Advisors
  • Providing feedback on projects to Faculty Advisors, Course Coordinator, Program Associate

Important notes:

  • This position requires non-standard working hours-you must be available to meet with student teams during the day, in the evening, and on weekends, as required
  • The workload for this position is not evenly distributed - you may find the beginning, and end-of-term to be considerably busier

OPEN - APSC 101/199 In class support- Fall term 2026

All graduate students are invited to apply for a Teaching Assistantship in APSC 101/199. 

The course provides students with the required communication skills necessary to be successful as students in the Stephen J.R. Smith Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. These skills include the ability to present technical information in a professional context. 

This position will provide support to the instructor in the in-class studios and mentorship to APSC 101 teams. There are 4 two-hour Studios most weeks. The TA contract will be for 60 to 120 hours depending on the number of sections assigned.

The role of this position is to help manage classroom activities for about 12 teams in the studio, observing their work in the studio and receiving updates from the team. This role will assist students with how to take good notes in the class, resolving technical problems and teaming concerns.

TA assignment duties may include leading the classroom activities, managing classroom technology, answering student emails and inquiries, grading and proctoring.
